WHEN BEAUTY MEETS ETHICS – BEYOND FASHION SUMMIT
Event location for the Beyond Fashion from 21st to 22nd October 2011 will be the international art academy ESMOD. There the participants will be offered to explore and discover new dimensions of sustainable fashion – in terms of design – in terms of marketing – and in terms of social trends. Two days of concentrated knowledge-transfer and networking – for forward-thinkers and movers and shakers in Design, Retail, Science and Economy.
The organisers are very happy to welcome international speakers who are pioneers with their work and vision in the field of fashion and sustainability. Together with the participants they want to create a vibrant bond between ethics and esthetics and make a step beyond traditional conference set-ups. Among others there will be:
- Aurelyen [ F ] // Founder & Designer // Misericordia
- Matilda Lee [ GB ] // Journalist // The Ecologist
- Nur Basaran [ NL] // Brand & Product Manager // Kuyichi
- Mark Starmanns [ CH ] // Lecturer for Political Geography // Universität Zürich
- Melanie Kuntnawitz [ D ] // Head of Vendor Control // Jack Wolfskin
A re-creation-lounge, a DIY-program and the opening reception make Beyond Fashion Summit a place for exchange where new strategies will be created and promising connections will be made. A historical brick stone building, the Esmod fashion university in Berlin’s trendy district of Kreuzberg, will offer fashion designers, retailers, economists and pioneers of the new green movement a place to discuss and celebrate new dimensions of green fashion.
Beyond Berlin brings together expertise in the fields of fashion, consulting and sustainability. The scope of services covers sales, consulting and communications. The vision is to endorse value-driven, eco-friendly design, production and marketing, leading to a new conception and, subsequently, to a different reception of quality in fashion.
For more than 25 years Christian Initiative Romero (CIR) supports the improvement of life and work conditions of women and men producing for the global textile market in Central America. As a member of the international Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) they want to inform about the precarious work situations and violation of labour rights.
In October 2011 ESMOD Berlin will also offer the international masters programme “Sustainability in Fashion”. The hands-on approach encourages students to explore the sustainable aspects of developing design strategies and methods for the future and provides access to innovative materials, technologies and productions.
