BRUSSELS FASHION MAKES A STATEMENT
Since 1994 Modo Brussels organizes the Modo Parcours (Fashion Trail), the most prestigious fashion event in Brussels. During three days, 28th to 30th October 2011, more than seventy designers will gather and expose their installations in the Dansaert, St-Jacobs and Sablon area, also well-known as the most avant-garde districts in Brussels. During those three days, down-town centre will vibrate all colours of the current fashion trends.
On the occasion of this eleventh edition, the Modo Parcours will be organized under the creative direction of Didier Vervaeren and this with the support of the Brussels Capital Region.
The theme of the Modo Parcours 2011 will be “Statement’” - in the sense of notification, a message of creation, of taking positions … There are as many statements as there are fashion designers, as there are projects … if there is a will to make a difference. If we look to the past in terms of Design & Fashion, statements are numerous. Statements are meant as a manifesto, in a collective way or a more personal approach, as a short- or long term positioning. In fashion history, the desire of changing and action has been changed some things. Katherine Hamnett, Martin Margiela, Helmut Lang or Xuly Bët are only a few examples.
The Fashion Trail will expose more than seventy participants, a mix of young talents and established designers in the Brussels Fashion scene. All installations are made in an artistic way and in harmony with the surrounding; whether the designer exhibits in his own shop or he/she has been invited to exhibit in a private or unexpected place. Some of the designers are working together with other forms of art such as graphic artists, sculpture artists, photographers, dancers and actors. On Friday night 28th the Fashion Trail starts with performances, concerts and soirées during the nocturne.
A detailed map and program will be available at the starting point of the Fashion Trail (the Rits bar), the public can go and meet the designers in the order they choose and to the speed they want. The Modo Parcours is an opportunity for fashion-lovers to push the door of luxurious boutiques, but also to discover the unexpected places in the fashion district, which will be open for this occasion. This is also a moment for professionals to meet and (re)discover new Brussels talents. It is an inevitable appointment for the fashionistas in Belgium.
